I have never installed a cam before, what all needs to be taken off? intake, water pump, timing chain??? what else? Id the transmission is still attached does in need to be taken off?

I have done some reading, but what I found is more for a complete rebuild.
If someone could post a link, or video that would be great! This is for a stock 318, and I am thinking of getting the Lunati Voodoo 60401lk

Thanks much!!

Also the distributor, crank vibration damper, all hoses, both bank rocker assemblies and you want to replace the timing chain also. I respect you wanting to do this swap yourself but I highly recommend having someone help that's done it before. It's very important to have the engine set up properly before hand so that once started you can go immediately to 2000 rpm (or what the cam manuf. recommends) for 30 minutes for the cam breakin.

Grab yourself a book and study up. I own this book and found one for sale on e-bay. It's not necessarily a hard project but you want to do it correct the first time. It's a lot of work to do it over when you mess up. toolmanmike

Be very very careful pulling the cam out and putting the new one in. If you chip the cam bearings you will be pulling the engine. You must go very very slow.

That's right. The cam lobes are sharp on the ends and will easily scratch or chip the cam bearings. I always thread in a 8" long bolt into the cam for a handle. Makes it allot easier to handle.

When you do it make sure and follow step by step the cam manufacturers recommendation on how to break it in or it may go bad real fast. Use 15w40 Rotella diesel oil with GM EOS oil additive for break-in. The 1st 15-20 minutes of break-in will make or break the cam and if not done exactly right will result in cam lobe failure and that sends millions of little pieces of metal throughout the engine which can ruin everything.

You didn't mention valve springs. the stockers WILL NOT WORK. this can be done with the heads on the motor, but the best way is to take them to a cylinder head man and have him check the pressures so you have the correct seat and open pressures. Buy the springs that are recommended by your cam company too.
