73 dart. is there a way I can lock down my hood to potentially keep my battery from being lifted? thank you for your time. RR

I bought a Dart once that had a chain attached to the hood latch and core support with a keyed lock, you could only open the hood enough to get to the lock. He didn't want any external devices like keyed hood pins, so he came up with this...

Hood pins work well, but nothing will keep the battery in place during an accident without a battery hold down bracket.

I tried this but found out he was a sucker for a little scratching behind the ears.............

If the battery is your only worry, why bother trying to lock down the hood? Skip the hood pins, remote releases and all that stuff and just get a length of insulated cable or chain, like a bike lock.

Shorten it so it is just barely long enough to go around the battery and tray, through the tray braces. Padlock it and keep the key on your key ring. Done. Not infallible, but nothing really is for someone who is determined to get at it.

I used a chain thru an opening in the hood bracing on a 73 Challenger I had when I was a kid and had no place to park it inside. I let the long end of the chain run down thru the safety catch hole by the latch and would pull it around and back up to attach to the master lock on the other end of the chain. I would have to nudge the hood up far enough to get both hands under it to lock and unlock. Locking it was the easiest because I wasn't having to hold keys.

isn't a 73 dart hood release from inside the cabin?

if that's the case i don't know how much more secure you're gonna get than that. bat-tree thieves are opportunists, if the hood doesn't pop it's more likely they'll just move on to the next one.

no hood release. OK I will run a chain or cable up from below to where I have enough room to open the hood several inches to where I can access a padlock. thanks guys. RR

Mr. Gasket has round key flat hood locks. It’s like doing the hood pin thing except instead of a stud the pin goes through, it’s a flat surface.

You can also use cotter pin kits and instead of cotter pins, get small master locks to put in the hood pins...

What about a steel cable with the round/crimped ends?
Loop it through the bracket on the hood for the latch, down around the rad support or something, put a lock on it.
Hood wouldn't even pop up.
Yes, anyone determined enough, etc.

I have friends that do that and personally, I don’t like it much.
If a determined person wants to have at it, it’s just a snip with chain cutter snipes.
