how would i know what kind of rear end i have

my car is a 71 Dart 318 auto

I looked at a 71 318 car a few years ago and it had a 8 3/4- I was a little surprised but I think I remember seeing a towing package or something on the fender tag...?

yea anything is possible. i have a parts car out here that is a 6 cyl car and had a 8 3/4 rear and 4 piston disc brakes up front.

my 72 duster came factory with a 318 and it has a 489 center 8 3/4 rear with kelsey hayes 4 piston discs in front.

the best way to know what rear end you have is to go look under your car.

I got my 8 3/4 rear out of a '71 or '72 Duster Twister 318 auto
But its most likely a 7 1/4, I think 318s with a manuel trans got an 8 3/4 rear too.
