Installed a hurst pro matic 2 shifter in the big block duster today and all went as it was supposed to.Then I was watching a video on YouTube and a guy on there had one in his roadrunner and the shift pattern was backwards as in 1st gear was were 3rd gear should be. He didn't say he had a reverse valve body and some words flashed on the screen saying displayed shift pattern was incorrect. Is this right? If so I may have installed it incorrect. The directions said put the shifter all the way back, the trans shift linkage all the way forward, then install. Correct? Which would put it as P,R,N,3,2,1. He must have had a reverse valve body in the video.

Thanks. I bought mine off of craigslist also. Nib, but certainly not as good of a deal as you did. I'm hoping to have the car turn key driving very soon. Then I guess I'll know for sure if it's all good.

P,R,N,3,2,1
Is correct for a standard vb. I've run a forward and reverse with mine and no way could you change the shift pattern with the shifter, but you do have to start with it in the right position to adjust it with either vb.

Correct, as the lockouts where you have to lift the handle are all wrong for changing the pattern. (as in you would have to lift it to shift from first to second and so on)
I like mine and have thousands of miles on it, but the Wife won't drive my car because of the shifter.
Perfect. :D

If I'm not mistaken you can still run it in drive with the kick down installed and drive it as a standard transmission correct. I wish my wife was deterred from driving ours. She was the one that insisted the car get either a b&m mega shift or the hurst pro matic 2. As she said the car is not manly without a floor shift. Lol. She is planning on driving the car often. Brings back memories of her cuda with the floor shifter.

You can run it in drive and it will shift like any other automatic, or shift 1,2,3 manually via the ratchet system if that's what you mean.

Yes, that was what I meant. That will make it drivable for my wife when she wants to run it to the store for milk and eggs but allow it to get down the track slapping gears for my son or I. Thanks for the answers to my questions.

when i was dateing my ex wife bought her a pink monte carlo SS had a b&m shifter,..she never would drive it,..ended up trading it for a mini van after fist kid came and 2 was on the way...

When I first started dating my wife many many years ago she was driving a '71 cuda with a b&m mega shifter. She would drag race it, street race it, throttle it all over the place. She used to drive the heck out of my big block 4 spd lifted suburban. Daily drove year round in the rain, snow, ice a badass SS 6 spd convertible camaro. She wants a 68 4 spd big block chevelle next. Lol. She drives a 2016 kia soul now. Definitely not her style, but gas mileage is important. I'll get her the chevelle this year.
