Hurst pro matic 2 without the black base?

Anybody got a Hurst Pro Matic that they've installed without that giant ugly black plastic base? If so can I get pictures/details?

I'm just wondering if anyone has a solution other than a factory console or the ugly Hurst base. Can you just put a rubber boot and chrome plate around it? I don't see why that wouldn't work but thought I'd ask before I spent the money.
