Ok so for those of you who have talked with me before on here....you know I have been a little stuck on my paint choice....first it was the color then it was rather or not to go base clear or single stage, then I was thinking of going single stage and was debating on acrylic enamel or urethane.......well I just want you guys to know that I ditched that idea and I am sticking with the base clear route and plum crazy purple with the satin black 340 stripe kit.

Now for the questions I have, I am thinking of going with base clear dupont chroma base but I wanted to figure out what the pricing of each thing is going to be so I can get a better idea of the price im looking at.

I am looking at getting 1 gallon of (dark)n7710s , 1 gallon of 7779s clear , 1 quart and 1 pint of 7765s hardener ,1 gallon of the chroma color , 1 gallon of low temp base maker chroma and 1 gallon of thinner.

I got all that info from my painter but I have looked around the internet and I am having bad luck at finding pricing for paint. so if any of you could give me an estimate on pricing for each of those things plus maybe any equivalent paints to the dupont chromabase that I could you alternatively Id appreciate it.

I would paint the car myself but with the garage I havew now I dont think I would get that great of a paint job so I will have my painter do it instead this time.

thanks in advance for your guys help

No offense, but once you get thru shopping around and getting it shipped... It will be close to waht your painter charges. At least close enough to make things easier. Plus... out of curiosity... if you need more.. then what? I do paint and I've been stuck that way which is why I ask.

for one.....my painter is doing it for "FREE" since he owes me money. 2 I shouldnt need more paint....all depends on if your the type who globs coats of paint on thinking the more the marryer lol wich is not the case her. if you take the time to read the tech sheet on chromabase all they call for is 2-3 coats. and normally when painting a car I only need 3 or 4 quarts and a gallon will mix out to 5 quarts easy enough wich should give me plenty. probably lay 3 coats of base and 3 coats of clear on exterior and the engine bay wont take much paint and the interior wont take much paint...I think the hole thing could be painted and still have a jars worth of paint left over for touch up purposes. Any how, back to the original question at hand....how much money does everyone think each of those items will run me? MINUS shipping as I am not purchasing it over the internet....as I said before I was only PRICE CHECKING on the internet. Thanks guys

ChromaBase is a 1:1 mix so 1 gallon makes 2 ready to shoot. We used it on our Barracuda and I could not be happier with the outcome. We did use the ChromaPremier Sealer in the correct value shade and got excellent coverage with only two coats in a Light Moss Green. The painter also used the Nason High Image 465-00 Clear.

Ok even better yet lol....I wasnt sure on the ratio so thats even more then I thought. My last car painted was a mustang and I ran all chromabase dupont paint and it came out very nice....no need for wet sanding or buffing,it laid out like glass. I also spent the big money on adding pearl tints and got a high dollar color....not doing that this time, just plum crazy purple, nothing less, nothing more. And yes I had already pland on going the appropriate color for the sealer. going with the dark sealer (7710s) . Could you give me a round about price on what each item I listed at the beginning of the thread would be?.....seems how you have worked with this paint before...just an estimated figure. I cant remember what I paid for materials on my last dupont job. anyways thanks and keep the answers coming guys

With some good discounts as the painter had been doing business with the supplier for years:

Chromabase Color $240 (1 gal)
Basemaker $58 (1 gal)
Nason Clearcoat $98 (1 gal)
Nason Activator $78 (2qt)
Nason Ful-Base Reducer $26 (1 gal)
Sealer ValuShade $76 (2qt)
Sealer Reducer $36 (1 qt)
Chroma Premier Activator $74 (1 qt)

We went with the ChromaPremier sealer because the painter had been having trouble with the newer Chromabase Sealers with holdout over the primer and when doing repairs over older finishes. You can also activate the Chromabase Color coat with the Premier activator for a much harder finish but then you have a pot life with the activated color base, so it is not as easy as un-activated base coat.

Just wanted to let you guys know I got my paint! ppg base clear plum crazy purple.....got a good deal too, 1 gallon of plum crazy purple that mix's 1to1 so actually 2 gallons......plus 1 gallon of clear, plus a quart of hardener plus a gallon of reducer plus like 20 stir sticks and strainers....still gotta get some more stuff yet but that was the biggest expense....got it all for $212.00 with tax! for PPG. not bad. I took pictures of the color in the can and I sprayed a test patch to see how it looked laid out and took pictures but the cable for my digital camera is broken so now I cant upload pics but I will figure something out. thanks for all the info and advice guys and I am sure I will have more questions for you guys about something again! lol

forgot my laptop had a card reader lol so I loaded pictures that way....anyhow,got bored and sprayed a quick little spot just too see the color, like setting a bag of candy out for a kid but saying he's not aloud to eat it lol...had to spray a quick spot. before you go judging the quality of the paint job lol...let me start by saying,I did not sand, I did not have the pressure on the gun set,I sprayed over the top of bondo dust...I was not going for quality here lol just a sample of the color. anyhow, I just wanted to show you guys my new paint! swing over to the restoration section or search through my threads,I am getting ready to load up new pictures of progress on the duster!

have you asked any local shops and suppliers on what they suggest? Paint looks good!

good call on going with Base/clear

called any local shops for suggestions on what? thats where I got the paint I bought was at my local paint store and the guys there have been there for more then 30 years and they said that they suggest going with what I bought...they said they would suggest the next step up wich was more expensive but only for if I wasdoing cut in body work but they said since I am starting from scratch and doing a hole paint job that they recommend going with the paint i bought. And thanks....I thought about it some more and did some price matching and decided thats what i was going with...what do you think of the color? all mopar
