The fire burnt through my AC line too, spewing compressor oil all over the engine compartment.....This WAS my wifes daily driver,..... and occasionally I would run it down the drag strip for fun... My chevy also broke down today! Bad battery! I should have never woke up this morning. Wish the duster was done!!!!!

note the circle around the problem.

and as far as i can remember, that was an issue wasnt it? fire.. fire under the hood? fire under the hood from alternaters. :wav:

glad everyones ok tho.
R134 isnt flammable but the oil is. catch 22.

oh well
looked like a nice 5.0
shame shame..

Ok, I might be on to something. I was poking around on the net, and found that the factory top altenator harness plug will overheat and melt down, eventually causing a short. then you get what we have here. Common problem, not so easy solution. I guess I have to buy a different altenator than stock, somthing called a 3G, and re-wire the harness with 4awg wire. Guess the pony will be down for a few days till I locate the 3G altanator. Sorry guys, I didn't mean to take up a thread with this, just wanted to tell everyone how my day went! lol. Good thing I was planning on painting the car, and had not painted it yet!

Cerwin you make an excellent point. Auto repair shops love Fords... cause the problem is circled on the front!

Poor 5.0... hope you get it up and going again. That was the best year Ford ever had on anything... cause I was born in 1989 lol. Good luck!

That was big enough problem that alot of reman alt. come with new plugins. The pigtail is a common part stocked at part stores, If you can't find it let me know and I can get you the part number for it.
