I salvaged many parts from a 40+ year abandoned-in-the-desert Barracuda

Starting to clean up the best bits to see what I'm using and what I'm sharing

The horn button was particularly gross, but seemed solid

Polishing out the back trim

I need to post my full car restoration thread but that's going to be a lengthy undertaking

Feedback welcome and tips appreciated!

Looks good. What do you use to polish things?

I bought a Harbor Freight bench grinder/polisher and a pedestal. Staked it down in the backyard and bought a $15 foot pedal plug to run it handsfree if needed.

Not the most heavy-duty, I used to run a 24" Buffalo polisher. The HF setup is fine for small parts. I already want something better for big parts like the bumpers

I have a variety of compounds and polishes, sometimes it is trial and error but being gentle and repeating is always better than going too aggressively and ruining something

Thats my problem, I usually mess the part up worse than it was before.

3M Chrome polish, a short black tub with a pink cream, is excellent.

Blue Magic Metal Polish Cream, a small blue tub, also very easy to work with with excellent results

Do you wet sand prior to polishing? If so, what grit?

Your pieces look great.

Almost never, not with chrome. On aluminum I will if there is a need, but that Blue Magic polish knocks the oxidation off like a champ.

Sanding is only really needed to clean up rusty contacts, otherwise I don't want to hurt cosmetic surfaces, especially plated metals

Very nice work, takes a lot of patience!

Long as you don't like polishing knobs, it's all good.

That's Fantastic! And thank you for the polishing restoration tips...

I hate to bring this up... but doesn't that "V" insignia indicate a Valiant? Probably a '64 or '65. The Barracuda would have had the Barracuda fish logo I would think.

It was still considered a Valiant submodel in early 65, and it was definitely a Barracuda. They didn't call it a standalone model with the fish until 66
