I saw something at my friend Reed's shop.

He was restoring a steering wheel and was lamenting that the final coat of two part finish always cost about $100 and most of it goes to waste on the shelf.

He asked the local paint supply business if they had any ideas.

Come to find out that there is a two part gloss clear coat in the can!

$18

Check it out.......................

I saw it tonight and the final looked like Glass,.... and no waste.

(sorry the pic of the steering wheel is not great, I didn't have my glasses on)

Let me explain that odd can.................

When he showed me that can I thought..............

Oh, you spray the part A on first, wait 15 minutes, then switch the spray nozzle to the opposite end of the can and spray on part B.

That is not how it works.................

There are two chambers in the can, that thing on the bottom is not for the nozzle.

They give you a hard plastic cap that you slip onto that post on the the bottom of the can.

You shake the can like crazy, then you mount the hard plastic cap on the bottom and push hard.

A long needle pushes up and pierces the wall between the two chambers and part A & B mix, then you are good to go.

Reed has done Many of these wheels over the years, he said this UV shielding clear coat looks just like the two part marine UV clear that he always used in the past.

I thought I would pass the info on.

since when does clear cost $100 and go to wast on the shelf? Yes clear is expensive but for $100 you get a lot (yes I know good clear, catalyst and reducer cost more then $100 but you get more then a gallon) and it has a long shelf life. Not to mention in the can it is a much weaker product then the 2part catalyst clear.......

.

Sounds like you didn't read my posts........

When maybe one wheel comes in a year waste can happen.

We are in California and prices are high on paint & chemicals.

And that can "IS" two part with
catalyst, did you read all of my post?

That can has "two chambers inside"
.

ya, cool...i've seen some 2k epoxy in a spray bomb also...

That's cool............

I have noticed a lot of the really good stuff is for the Marine maintenance/ boat builder crowd.

The products are made to endure blazing sun, salt water, & wear and tear.

Around here a lot of guys I know use Marine fabrics when they re-upholster.

Those materials hold up "Very Well"

They are loaded with UV protection.

Probably the guys in Arizona do the same when they can.

The sun can really break stuff down.
