I posted this on the Early A body discussion, but should have posted it hear instead.

Is there a chart for identifying what year my slant 6 engine is? In back of the alternator on the engine block boss these are the numbers: V 22 9 24 2. On the drivers side of the block are these numbers: 2463430-12. I'm trying to find out what year it is. I don't think it's the original engine for the car.

V: 1964 model year
22: 225 CID engine
9 24: Assembled on 24 September 1963
2: Line or Shift № 2

2463430: Casting number for RG engine block
-12: Tool set identifier

Thank you very much. I ended up finding it on line also. So, I have a 66 Valiant Signet with a 64 225, still pretty cool. Thanks again slantsixdan.

Dan is the expert, so lucky he saw your post.
Yours certainly has the 3 staggered core plugs, vs 5 in a row of blocks by the 1970's. That is easy to discern in craigslist ads, as is an aluminum block (cylinder bulges on L side). The smaller 170 can be distinguished by the shorter hose from water pump up into the head, though hard to see in an ad.
BTW, I just caught myself - we shouldn't say "driver's side" since that confuses our Australian and Malaysian slant brethren.

Yes, I'm happy Dan chimed in. Now I know what I have. The only issue I have with it, is the PO when he had it installed, is they painted it Chrysler blue.

My 1964 225 appears original to my Valiant. The engine is red, slightly light red and dull, but could just be from age. I cleaned and re-sprayed parts of it when I had components off, using Rustoleum 500F engine paint, forgot which "red" but a little darker and gloss.
