identify this rear end(pics)

Is this an 8 1/4 or 8 3/4? Can someone id what I have here?

It's not an 8-3/4

8-3/4 does not have a bolt on cover.....chunk comes out the front

And an 8 1/4 doesn't have a bulge out back I don't think.

that chart for an 8 1/4 looks like an dana 35 not a 8 1/4 a 8 1/4 will have a u shape peace of metal on the bottom side hanging below the diff cover

Don't waste your time cleaning that rear, scrap it. Looks like a 7 1/4.

Jack the body of the car up so the rear end will hang down for a better pic....even if it is a 7 1/4 if it is working don't go rushing it off to the scrap yard...sheesh wasteful people, i still have one in my waggin with 318 four speed and beat the snot out of it and it still going strong :burnout: and besides from the pics you show looks like 7 1/4 , the screw in plug kinda say's 7 1/4 8 1/4 usually have a rubber push in plug .....but yer pics suck!....Just sayin

Real EASY to put it to rest. If it is an 8.250, it'll have 3" axle tubes like an 8.750. If it's a 7.250, it'll have 2.5" axle tubes. duhhhhhhhh

Some newer 7.25's like what came in the 5th Ave have 8.25 tubes and ends on them. But that one looks like an original 7.25.
