I'm thinking of writing a book

Seriously.I have a stack of stories of all the B.S. I went through with this car (You new guys have no idea.... do a search for my old posts.) I figure I could write a REAL restoration book talking about real people like us whom wrench on their cars and make mistakes, have unforeseen set-backs, difficult vendors or body shops, and ultimately, win. Everything from "helpful" friends that cost you money, or buying parts and having to modify every damn thing that gets bolted together. I could also give advice on fabricating odds-n-ends a home hobbyist could do. I have almost the complete restoration photo-archived and have a list of costs.

I'm by no means a wealthy guy. My Wife & myself are making some sacrifices to see this project through. Fortunately our living expenses are manageable and she's a saint. But most of what I'm doing can be tackled project by project as needed. Engine re-building... Suspension re-build....Dash resto...plumbing fuel system.... custom wiring....fabricating simple shields, brackets, and mounts. Dare I say it, even a headliner installation.

Wadda ya think? Or should I just go bang my head against the wall some more? 8)

I think it could be a tremendous resource to have all of the big steps, as well as the little stuff that tries to sneak up on you, all in one stream of information.

With all of the "publish on demand" printers out there, I think it would feasible and I think it would be a great idea. Alot of work I'm sure but sounds like you've got the motivation. I would guess the big steps would be finding an editor and distributor. I'm sure some of your trusted friends and associates on this site would be proud to comment on chapters as you progress. Good luck with your venture.

I think you got the right ideal on how to right a manual,more pitcures more facts . All my manuals say based on complete teardown well they wasn't working on mine But then again it says a complete teardown it dont say nothing about putting it back together

Sounds like a great idea.

I could give you a plethora of set back stores, screwed up vendor experiences, crooked body shop stories, and a boatload of lessons learned the hard way from a first time project.

For instance I just thought I was over the hump as I got my 7 year project running, but now, my driveshaft, whom I trusted in the hands of "experts" is too long and may very well have screwed up my manual transmission or worse.
It really sucks learning stuff the hard way.

One thing you may want to consider is getting the whole thing proof read by a copywrite lawyer so that Chrysler don't try to sue you for using their name in a way that may get their greedy *** lawyers in a panty wadding tizzy.

I think it would be a great idea especialy for the layman ready to jump into their first project, and I'm sure the bok could be a great educational assett to those us of that simply forget and need to be reminded of the troubles we can get into.

Make sure you have a section for the (ladies) with step by step instructions complete with Biblical quotes on how a Wife should submit to their Husband and so on LOL.
For we all know how much easier it is to wipe out a bank account and royally screw up our life savings if our Wives are not nagging at us about dumping every single penny on our cars.
Jeesh, when will they learn?????

John, I had to laugh first at your "helpful friends who cost you money" comment! (That helpful friend of yours earned ME some work LOL!)

Secondly, I'd love to volunteer to be your editor.

I think you have a great idea that would go a long way to helping your fellow restorers out there. So many of those DIY resto manuals were written by formal engineers that it would be fantastic to have one in laymen's terms that even first-timers can understand (i.e., the difference between a Chilton's and a Haynes manual).
