Indy LA-X heads on 68-71 340?

68-71 340 pistons are flat tops...but they do stick out of the deck....depending on the block...as those block deck heights were all over the place....

you can use the close chamber heads on the early 340...you just need to know how much the piston is out of the deck and adjust the head gasket thickness to give you the clearance.

thats why abdywgn put "domed" in quotation marks. measure your deck height, pistons are probably up .015" from deck, use an 8553pt .053" gasket and go

Depending on your deck height and rod length they could be anywhere. Measure them all in the 12, 3, 6, and 9'oclock positions to be sure.

This is important.... there are several variations that effect piston heights: rod lengths, crank grinding accuracy and so forth. If the 340 pistons are .020" out of the hole in a coupla spots, the .053" gaskets will be a bit marginal IMO.
