For those who asked, I went to see the "specialist" last night. He did everything except quack and go for a swim.... He's telling me it's "just a torn ligiment" and to "take these pills". :-s

Well, needless to say I'm going for a second opinion. I have an appointment for Dec.1st. Let's see what this guy sez....In the meantime, my back does feel better, but not due to medication. I've been on my back for almost 3 days straight and I'll probably go to work tomorrow. And knowing my boss, the playful little tub of **** he is, will probably give me a transmission on a Pathfinder to replace.

For now, I'm back on my feet. Thanks for the well wishes guys :thumleft:

Drop it on his toe! Glad to hear you're feeling better!

offer to do what he does while he takes over for you! :D

Nah.... I couldn't eat that much or be that obnoxious.

He weighs about 375lbs, pays for sex, and is damn proud of himself.

Hey John when you go for the 2nd opinion make sure you QUACK and go for a swim this time!
Maybe you'll get a better diagnosis, but please don't wear your speedo when you go for the swim! :geek:

Hope you feel better buddy, now get off your a$$ and get back to work!

Hi John, I know what you are going through. I pinched a nerve in my back this summer. It was the worst pain I have ever been in ( even worse than the kidney stones) at least with the kidney stones I know that in a few hours the pain will end. I was on my back for almost a week, and off work for a month. I went back to work initially after a week and a half but just made it worse, so do yourself a favor and do NOT go back too soon. A bad back has to be one of the worst problems to have, it is incredibly painfull. Take care buddy, I feel for you. fastback383.

P.S. I was asked by a member of the town council if I would put my car in the Santa Claus parade to drive the mayor in ! I told him I had to think about that one , as there is no insurance on it right now. I might do it , not too sure yet.

Thanks for all the well wishes guys. Last night I actually felt OK. This morning I'm back to using the cane and I have a slight pain running down the back of my right thigh.

Now I'm getting concerned....... :?

BTW: FB383 if you have the opportunity to drive the Mayor, go for it. What better chance for a smokey burn-out photo then with the Mayor riding shotgun :D

Glad to hear you're feeling better! :thumrigh: I don't know about back pain...I'm not sure why..I abuse it often! I DO know about shoulder and knees, though!!

I got that same feeling when I pinched a nerve in my back. My back didn't hurt, but I could not bend my right leg. Almost felt like a pulled hamstring. My doctors didn't know #%*#. My mothers chiropractor wouldn't touch me, but he took xrays and sent me straight to a Madison Hospital to see a good orthepedic surgeon. Wish You luck, and find a good doctor for another opinion!

I went to see a second orthopedic specialist today. This guy took x-rays and showed me where I have 3 disc's starting to compress & rub, L2,3,& 4 if I remember correctly. These are the lowest disc's in the base of my spine, right where it hurts. The recommended treatment is take an anti-inflammatory such as Motrin, Aleeve, etc and relax. As he put it, a more "agressive" treatment may be needed in the future.

I'm way more comfortable with his diagosis than the first wanker..... Plus my boss has a copy of recommended work restrictions. Looks like I'm outta the heavy lifting hell and into more diagnosistic repairs. :thumrigh: All in all, I feel pretty good tonight. Too bad the wife went to bed already... :x

BTW: After our discussing the possiblities of how this happens, we deducted that my previous weight problem was a definite contributor. You see, I used to be approx. 130lbs heavier 6 yrs. ago. Yep. I was over 330lbs. Diet & excercise brought me down to 209lb. over the course of 5 yrs. My advice to anyone who says they can't do, TRY. I lived on cheeseburger's and Jack Daniels for years.... and I looked it. The only thing that makes me wonder is how f`k up I'd be if I didn't do something......

Glad to hear they are only "starting to compress". Mine got worse to the point of slipped disc and possible paralysis with one more nudge. I had to go through 14 hours of surgery and now sport almost 2 feet of stainless steel rods in my back. Good news though, that was 18 years ago and have had no back problems since then. Now just a pain in the neck once in a while. Kind-of same situation as your back. After compressing, the fluid that is between the discs can be lowered or lost. I take glucosamine HCL, enzyrest, and collastin to help restore the fluids when needed. They are not drugs to just relieve the pain. They are non-prescription natural vitamins! I am no doctor, but maybe these can help you too. Ask your Doc.

Another friend had recommended the Glucosmine too. I'll have Amy pick some up when she goes shopping this afternoon.

Thanks for the input & encouragement on being healthy. I'm also glad to hear of someone whom had back surgery and it was sucessful.

Well good luck with your back. My back has been ailing me for over 5 years, often to the point of being "laid" up, but not quite that bad like yours. I too was pretty heavy, about 285 for quite awhile, but losing weight hasn't changed the condition. I went through several "physical" therapy session but nothing seemed to help. But the last session I went to seems to have actually helped. I realized recently that my back rarely has flareups any longer, something that I haven't had for years.

This therapy has you on weight machines but the main gig is that you use a machine they called "med-x". All it really does is isolates your back muscles low in your back that are hard to exercise and strengthen. Usually when trying to work those muscles you use leg muscles and others. They lock your legs and hips in place and make you work using only your back. I guess the theory is by bulking up that area it will keep the spine in a better, stronger position.

Like an idiot I quit going after about 7 weeks (3x/week) because I couldn't feel any difference, but I have been without severe episodes of pain for nearly 2-3 months.

Did I just reply to a 7 month old post?

wow...how the heck did I see that post?

Well anyway...how's the back?

Yes, 7 months...I find this VERY amusing! :dontknow:

Thank you for the well wishes on my back. I've been relatively pain-free for about 4 months now. I have upped my excersize and get plenty of rest. Thank Gawd I'm in good shape these days, which is ironic considering how hard I tried to kill myself in my youth....:drunken:

I really hope it gets better. I have been fighting bad authritas for about 2 years and its got so bad that I feel like I cant work some days. My back is part of the trouble also along with most of my joints that hurt so bad. I took glucosamine for a good bit but it really did not help me at all. Now I take Daypro (an anti-flamitory) twice a day and Tramadol pain pills up to 3 times a day if needed. I wish you the best as I know how back pain can put you down real fast. Ron
