We managed to install the new dash cap today. wanted to do this before the windshield went in so I could do it easier. Also dyed the area in front of the cap under the windshield. We also dyed the package tray while we were at it.

looks good, Bill (from what I've seen of the caps you'd never be able to tell the difference from a new pad).

That cap looks great
I bought a complete repo dad pad and it fits like crap.
The studs are so short I could only start three of the nuts.

Looks like brand new! Nicely done.

The caps take a little work to get right IMHO, but it's what I'd consider a great inexpensive alternative. I wasn't super impressed with the fitment on the cap, and you could definitely tell it wasn't factory if you did a little more than a passing glance.

Also, the color match on the one I got was TERRIBLE! I had to go get some color matched plastic paint mixed at a local paint shop and resprayed it. It looked OEMish when complete.

Where did you get the dash cap from and what was the price?

Looks nice!
Thanks for posting pictures.
I have one that I'm going to install this summer.
I was wondering if I was going to be happy with it.
I'm recovering the seats and getting ready to do the headliner.
Your pics show its going to be fine.
Good job!

What did you use for dye. Would rattle can work also. I have a complete dash to restore from green to black.

Thanks for the replies. As far as getting it on right, all we did was make sure the imperfections in the pad was cut down so there was no high spots. This cap snapped right over. didn't have to touch it. all we did was apply silicone that came with it and put in place. dash cap came in black and we did nothing to it. easiest thing to install. I bought it on ebay from americandashcaps and the cost including shipping was under $100.00 to the house. I believe it was about $66.00. I will check and post the part # for this later. It will fit 73-76 Dusters and Dart Sports also. I bought one for my 76 Duster and I also put one on the 73 Dart Sport. I think it is great. If you are going to change color, the ONLY thing I would use is SEM Coat dye. I would not use rattle can paint. You can get this at Summit Racing. I used satin Black on the dash and package tray as seen in the pics.

I am not good at posting links but the name of the company I got these 3 caps from is americandashcaps on ebay. Here is the auction # of the one I just bought. you can get the info from there. #121537237603.

I'm sorry to hear that your dash board and package tray dyed.... LOL!

It looks great.

So all you did was take down the high spots on the old dash pad, then put the adhesive down and snap the new cap/pad in place on top? that simple?

What did you do to take down the high spots? grinder? utility knife?

that's it Kuda, I used a utility knife. The split had raised on both sides so I trimmed it down. The other pic shows like a bubble up in the front. I cut it out completely. That's all. This car was a Georgia car almost all of its life but a couple of months so the dash cap was really brittle.

I've used a couple, great for a driver. real show poodle guys would not want it.

yours looks great. that type of plastic can be died, the prep is very important, and as using a good auto dye. I have had trouble with dye adhering to hard abs plastic. I have had success before with good aerosol dyes.

remember the colors in the interior of any mopar is a combination of flats, semi gloss, and maybe gloss. if your interior trim is ALL the same shade, it will be obvious its not factory correct. factory did this to reduce glare in many places.

That cap looks great, thanks for the auction information. Im going to order one now.
