I'm a little stuck (again) on how to install the upper side trim (the painted piece that clips on along the sides of the headliner). It looks like it tucks under the roof rail stainless trim. I can install it without the clips tucking it under the roof rail trim (barely) but it doesn't look like it goes in with the clips. If I recall correctly I found one thread on this and the guy solved his own problem by installing the clips first and then the trim...not sure about doing it this way. Is there a procedure for doing this?

Slip the back end in first then use your palm to tap the clips in. Finish off with the screw in the front.

there should be 2 clips

That's what I tried initially but it wouldn't go back far enough so I wondered if the trim lip was supposed to tuck under the stainless trim lip. It doesn't look like it does in your pics.

It doesn’t go under. It just sits along the edge of it
Ok I'll work with that. Right now it doesn't seem to go back far enough. I noticed that the ends of the right and left trim pieces look different. One has a groove and one doesn't. Even the simple jobs seem to have snags these days :)

The inside lip is tight against the roof pinch weld that the headliner is glued to. You could pop the clips off and try to get it into place first to make sure you can get it where it goes before bothering with the clips

Thanks for your help. I started second guessing the proper installation as the passenger side didn't fit properly. The rear tab was bent preventing the trim from going all the way back. After I straightened it everything was fine. I realized it must be a simple job after not finding any posts about this issue. I made it complicated. :)
