Rocco, he has a 383 intake pictured. But more importantly, the idea of a squarebore carb on a Spreadbore intake isn't so much a bad idea but an issue of the way it is and how things go, or work.
A spreadbore intake has problems with fuel distabution (sp?) The spreadbore intake has two basic reasons for its design.
1st, the factory went with a spreadbore carb and needed the intake modified to begin with.
2nd, the aftermarket designed there intakes for 1 of 2 reasons with a spreadbore carb pad.
1; factory replacement part/mild performance.
2; certain catagories in racing say you must use a stock carb for the carb in which the TQ is it.
Many squarebore carb pad intakes are also not all that. They all have air and fuel problems, but not as bad. (For the most part that is!) most aftermarket intakes will show a marked improvement with epoxy and/or a dremel grinding.
This is so not to say all intakes suck or need improvement but certainly they all can be worked on to be better.
The bennifit for us is (mostly back in the day bennifit) that you can save money with a intake matched to your OE carb being re used and only needing a tuning kit.
