Interesting rear end conversion

Anyone have a guess as to what was trying to be accomplished here?
As seen on FB Marketplace.

Mopar 8 3/4 rear end with pinion break and rear braced. Rearend is welded posi Came out of a 68 newport. $450 O.B.O

?? 4x4? Remember a drive shaft brake is way more effective than at the wheels because you are "using" the axle ratio, AIA a 4:11 ratio and brake on the driveshaft will generate 4x the torque of braking at the wheels except you only have one brake, so I guess it would be 1 brake on the shaft generates double the braking force of the same brake, one on each rear wheel.
 
Notice there are no brake lines to the wheels. I agree with what Del said.
