Is 700 HP possible with a naturally aspirated, single carb fed 440 street engine? Engine has all the best parts with no power adders running on premium fuel.

Is this a hypothetical engine? I ask because "best" is subjective.

I'm no expert but if people can get 700 out of a small block racing engine, I'm going to say 700 out of a 440 with good heads should be able to do it on the street. I'd sure love to see it! :)
 
What does " all the best parts" mean ?
You say it is a street engine. Is it still a 440 or what are the detailed.
Horsepower is made in the cylinder heads. So unless you have professionally ported aftermarket heads and the correct matching cam and intake to go with it, I will say,no.
Hell no.

Sure you could. I think 700 is about the limit for the stock block so let's start there.
 
Of the 4 stock stroke 440’s I remember testing that made around 700hp, this was the mildest one………

.060 over, mid-11’scr, fully ported Victor heads flowing 350, .690” lift roller cam, 2” headers, TF intake, QFT 950 carb.

605tq@5000/683hp@6800

The other 3 I can recall were about 13:1.
 
It makes no sense whatsoever to build a 700 HP 440 anymore when the 6.4L Hemi can do it without breaking a sweat at a much lower cost. Blackbird has their turnkey 717 HP Hemi priced at $16,900. Drop in and go.

You can’t get close to that kind of reliable power at that cost with a 440. And the 6.4L gets done with 48 fewer cubic inches.

Makes no sense to do a LOT of things that are done around here, yet here we are... lol.

Some people just don't want a computer etc.

I can't reach that site from work but does it include all of the extra stuff needed? ECU, Harness, fuel system etc? It's never just "drop it in a go".

Even hellcats spend a lot of time in the shop so I'm questioning the reliability aspect as well.
 
Yes it's very doable but my concern would be durability. To go through all that work and cost and then split a block or some other block failure would suck. Maybe you should look at it more like should you?

To be fair, he's talking about something driven on the street. No one would ever run the engine to it's max potential on the street. He'll be fine....

Throw a good set of heads on it and its done! The gen 3 Hemi is a race spec motor Hi comp, and big cam. Since 2009 I've build a ton of gen 3's, great motors! I'm putting together a 10.-1 499, I'll keep the site posted.
 
829 @ 7900 at the crank when fresh, small block stroker. It was still pulling. Indy head 416 R3 resto . 670 @ 7200 at the crank SB stroker Batten head 428 X block. We are doing 2 big blocks now.
 
I don't see why not with the heads we have available, It just come down if you want to turn it that high.

A 700 hp 440/451 gonna probably make around 1.3 tq per cid = 586 lbs-ft
RPM = (700 hp x 5252) / (586 lbs-ft x 90%) = 6,963 rpm so probably around 7,000 rpm give or take depending on efficiency, more efficient less rpm.
