I need a new fuel sender unit and mine is the 5/16" one. The one guy selling them said "we have 3/8" sending units with a return line(mine don't) for V8's". I might put a V8 in one day so I thought if it was needed I would get that one instead and just plug the return line.

It certainly wouldn't hurt to have the 3/8 fuel sender and if you plan to upgrade to a v8 later anyway you'll be a step ahead. But i believe all small block cars and /6's came with 5/16...only the big block (440 and hemi) cars came stock with the 3/8. If I'm mistaken some one will on here will correct me.

DRP is correct with the applications, but the only problem with upgrading to a 3/8" sending unit is that you'll have to change to a 3/8" hard line that runs from the tank to the engine, along with the fuel hoses that connect it all. Not to mention the hard line at the carb. If your planning on future up-grades, fine.

But for a stock /6 that's a lot of up grades....

I thought the existing rubber hose could be worked its way on. If not, a new piece of 3/8" line should collapse enough when I put a clamp on it. No?

Thats what I did when I replaced my 5/16 fuel sender with the 3/8 one.
Though I have a 360 and eventually plan on replacing all the 5/16 hard line with 3/8.
