Is anyone using a 904 behind a GIII Hemi?

Absolutely agree. One other thing should be noted, one with the double wrap low/reverse band seems to be preferred, also. For what it's worth, I have a stone stock 1968 904 behind a 2004 std. bore, stock stroke 5.7 hemi. 6.1 cam, eagle heads (stock), cascar intake, and 09-10 5.7 jeep manifolds. Clearances were corrected, had a 4.2 lever in already, and shift kit installed. We will see if this works, doing the transplant this weekend.

A lot of great information and has convinced me that using the 904 is not only possible but probable. Thanks all and keep the information coming

I'm sure you probably know this but, 727 & 904 gearing is the same (2.45 1st, 1.45 2nd) to 1980. In 1981, 904s got 2.74 1st & 1.54 2nds - if that makes a difference in what you have/want. Just some food for thought.

OK, so beyond which auto trans to use between the 727 or 904, how does one connect the trans to the modern HEMI?
