Is it possible to use a 46re without the pcm?

I can get an '02 318 with the trans and van attached for next to nothing and was going to use it in a demon clone i'm building. I know that the o/d transmissions before '95 or so are pretty easy to set up with a vacumn switch and a couple oil psi switches. Is it possible to use the pcm or some combo of sensors and switches to be able to use an electronically controled o/d trans? I have no intention of keeping the original fuel injection/computer setup on the motor.
