after having many 318s...weather sitting for years or dd....all where solid runners after timing chain and gears changed out...not one of them where oil burners...id have to say out of all the ford,chevy,ih,am v8 engines...the 318s ran more miles for less money and nickle diming then anything ive had...that said im on my 2nd cummins hvy hauler dulley 4x4 5.9 to 6.7 and nothing even comes close in almost 30 yrs of hard hvy pulling hauling...fluid changes ,belt,tires, fr wheel berings....1 rear u joint...never brakes , or f end parts..and theres not ever been a gas engine that will give the mpg ...in line 6 big D baby!!!!I found any old regular 2 barrel 318 to be just as reliable, often times MORE durable than a slant six
