When did the J heads get the 2.02 Intake valve size.
And yall can continue the conversation from 1973s thread.

The motor had so much grease on it, I would bet it never was apart.
THIS is why i was asking. i used a set of J heads off an early 71 360 on my last 360 build and i didnt even bother to check what size intake valves were in it "assuming" that all j heads were 1.88
great . good to know, i had heard before that some 360 j heads came with a 2.02360s never came with 2.02s. In a round about way on the other thread, that's what I was tryin to say.
It appears that maybe some J heads came with 2.02s. The 360 never had 2.02s, but they did have 1.88 J heads beginning in 71. Does that help?
The Js on my 360 have 2.02 intakes. Is there a way to tell if they were off of a 340? or 360? Would the numbers say anything?

It kinda does. If I pull numbers off my heads would it help? Where could the numbers be found?
Not that I know of, no. In all liklihood, they were added.
You got 915 heads. I already know what they are. lol
That's a big negative. Because if they ever had, the 340 might notta been the performance engine.
Like I posted in the other thread. The J head replaced the X head as a running change in mid 70 model year. Tjese heads had 360 cast on the ports also. They had 2.02" intake valves. The reason they had the 360 on the ports is that the 360 was just coming out and the changes to the head were charged off to the 360 program.
In 72 they went down to the 1.88" intake valves. However any good head/valve guy can open them up to accept the 2.02 valves and they will be as good as the early 2.02" J heads.
Assuming the same size valves, not a damn thing other then the different letters. What are the differences between 71 340 J heads and 70 X heads?
not to get off topic , but ive always found it entertaining to hear how the 360 replaced the 340

I tell you brother......had Chrysler EVER put 2.02 heads and 2 eyebrow flat tops in the 360, the 340 wouldda been done for.
