The Great Escape is one of my all time top movies. As I was doing research about my father in law's WWII service, I learned about the real "Great Escape". About 85% of what is in the movie is REAL. The real escape took place at Stalag Luft #3. If you are a student of or enjoy WWII history, look it up. The site for the 392 Bomb Group lists each mission they flew with the official report. I did some research on that film back when I saw it for the first time.

Bummer that they were all eventually captured and re-incarcerated or executed.

They kind of left that out of the film.

Great movie,great cast.

Read the book a long time a go. Thought it said 3 made it back to great Britain. Part of the reason for the escape was to muck up the germans looking for POWs.
