jegs vac advance distributer

we just put one of these on a 67 318.it has an old mallory ignition box and the stock ballast resistor.
i have everything to do the gm module conversion but i see in the comments on jegs site that it wont work with this setup.
i have a feeling they are not sure what the conversion is.
have any of you done this?

   The Jegs 555-40500 distributor does not work with a GM conversion.

The Jegs 555-40500 is a revamped version of, and direct replacement for, the Chrysler production electronic ignition distributor, and it is designed to use the stock Chrysler distributor cap and rotor. It is intended to work with the stock Chrysler or equivalent replacement ECUs, can work with your Mallory ignition, and it will work with a GM-based HEI conversion if you decide to go that route.

Ironically for their listed question/answer, regarding HEI, Jegs own specifications, state this:

If you read the link details, you will see that it's a Chrysler style ignition sold by Jegs. Magnetic electronic, just like stock.

thank you! i just want to clean up some of the wiring under the hood.
the gm hei module seems like a good dependable way to do it.
my son wants to keep the nostalgic mallory box but i think this may be giving us some of the performance issues were seeing.
i figured it would work with the distributer but just wanted to check with you guys first.
i bought one of those kits to mount the gm module under the distributer but im not sure now if the jegs one has the drain holes in the bottom like the stock one to mount it.

it will work with a GM-based HEI conversion

I have done this on my car with the standard Chrysler electronic distributor. I mounted the HEI module on the firewall and used a old computer heat sink and heat sink paste.
The unit works well. I wanted to try this just "Because" using factory, MSD, Mallory, etc. over the years. You can also increase spark plug gap .040 to .060.

my mallory box looks like its from the 70s.
we will keep it under the hood for looks!

Do not use Dielectric Grease to mount the HEI module to the heat sink.

Use this TM30 Thermal Paste so that it will transfer the heat out of the HEI module into the heat sink. (not insulate it from the heat sink)

TM30 Thermal Paste is available at Best Buy stores or you can order it in from e-bay.

If it doesn’t have the drain holes just drill them. And definitely use some kind of heat sink paste. I get it from the local hardware store.
