Just a little memory, maybe a confession.

I had similar in a 79 CJ5. Had a decent stereo, had speakers bolted down so could whale on them and not get them out. For the stereo I took two 1” wide pieces of steel, sharpened them and crisscrossed them underneath from the bottom of the dash to the firewall. Someone that didn’t know would grab them and yank if they were going for the stereo head. One day after work I climb in and there’s a pool of blood on the passenger side floor mat. Made me smile.

I bought my 1st car when stereos were being stolen on a regular basis. I bought a nice FM cassette player cheap ( presumably stolen) and went to local Radio Shack and bought a slide mount for it. When I’d leave the car I would slide it out and tuck it under the seat out of sight. Circa 1976. Still have the stereo and car

Wow! I had forgotten all about those slides…..

Dad had one for his CB radio, AND one for his AM/FM (radio only) in his old ‘68 Ford truck.

Seems a little odd now thinking that an AM/FM radio would be valuable, but back then that FM radio (and TWO speakers!) was a HUGE upgrade to that old truck.

I had a convertible once (non-MoPar) with no roof. Had the stereo on a CB slider, with a guitar strap attached, so I cold pull it out and put it over my shoulder when I got out.

Very convenient, and they never stole my stereo.

All four wheels, but not the stereo.

Remember those stereos where the entire thing slides out with a handle on it? The eagle talon guy in high school had one and he'd always be carrying it to class.

Was watching the old TV show "The Americans". I chuckled when Phillip was carrying one of those radios in a scene. Memories of old times!

I saw an eagle talon on the road today, had to do a double take, but it really was... pretty cool lil DSM
