I'm finally putting things together and measured the rings in the bore. I'm getting .021" on the end gaps and the calculator says .026". Is it time to file the ends??? This is for a mild 360 roller that will see a lot of mountains. Think lower RPM lugging.

Yes, time to file them. Do yourself a favor, buy a cheap ring filer, and be very careful. The get wide really fast...lol.

I'll look for a cheap ring filer tomorrow. I've never filed rings before, they always fit. Is there anything I should know? How much clearance on the second rings, they are tight too.

yes, file them inward not outward, as in...NOT toward the outside of the ring face.

this usually applies to moly rings, i do it with all regardless.

files are more forgiving.imo...the crank type filer can really remove a lot and if ur not carefull...you'll have a .060 gap.lol

and very lightly 'with fine file' just glance all edges of the filed portion once over.

btw...i grew up reading bill the cat and opus from the outland/bloom county comic.
