I have a 74 duster and i just got it. some one had put an edelbrock performer 600 4 barrel carb from autozone. when i got it the 4barrel doesnt work but the thing i need more, is my kick down isnt working. it wasnt hooked up i have it hooked up now but i have no idea how to adjust it. any ideas.

thanks travis

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I always adjusted it until the kickdown rod was all the way back at full throttle.

On my 74 Dart (318/904) it won't shift in to third gear when I have it like that, so I have about half an inch++ clerance.
But with that as a base to work from, you can just adjust as you go.
More clerance = early shifting.

Lengthening the rod will give you delayed shifts... to a point. The factory way to set it as was said... Hold carb at full throttle and adjust the rod so the lever is all the way back against the stop. Then snug the bolt. (prob ought to first make sure when the gas pedal is floored the carb is AT wide open... if not, adjust the cable or mounting point on the carb to get it. then get the kickdown preliminarilly set. then drive it. You should have shifts around 26-28mph in 1st, 40-42mph in 2nd if all's "normal". If it shifts late, or down shifts when coming to a stop, make the rod slightly (like 1/8" or less) shorter and test again. It will not affect WOT shift points, but testing and driving can get it where it's comfortable. If you want higher shift points, replace the governor set in the tail housing with product from A&A.
