Anybody ran a knee knocker in an abody and keep the stock heater/ defrost system? Seems all the evaps available are 13" deep and would stick a mile past the dash. Would hate to lose defrost option but can't afford a $2500 system. Perhaps a separate blower for defrost could work

This must be some regional old fashioned term for an add-on air conditioning system, right?
Classic Auto Air and Vintage Air may have what you need.

I'm looking at the same options.
These guys were at Syracuse Nationals this year, I checked out their website and there are possibly too many options with multiple selections to make for each.

I'll probably go this route as well, just need to determine which one:

Check out A/C for antique cars | Coldmaster | USA

These guys seem to be the cheapest, and let's be honest all this crap is made in China so why pay more.

Cant be that old fashioned, I'm 45 but always heard the under dash AC units to be called knee knockers

i knew exactly what you were talking about. our 70 dart had one.. not sure i still have it around tp measuer anymore though....

Did you still have the factory heating? I see it's mounted at like a 45 degree angle, that should help clear everything, I'll have to whip out a straight edge and take some measurements.

yes, heat and defrost was still there. this was a dealer installed kit back in theday

I'm not trying to insult you, I'm just stating that it is not a term that was commonly heard around me.
You missed the "regional" reference.
Nobody that I know uses the term here and I'm older than you.

I had the same system as in post#6 in a low mile 73 Dart. I purchased it from the original owner and she said it was dealer installed when the car was a year old. the compressor was MASSIVE! It was a completely separate system from the heater/defrost with its own blower.

If I heard someone say that they had a knee knocker I'd be somewhat uncomfortable that they told me that.
I don't need to know, man.
