On the 1965 273 both 2 and 4 barrel engine there was a tag on the carb with the carburator#.

For 273 2 bbl manuel transmisson the tag was red
For 273 4 bbl manuel transmission the tag was red

I have a 273 2 bbl carb for atutomatic transmission and that tag is blue!

Is there anyone that have a correct tag for a mint or an NOS carb that could send me a picture showing this? The reason is simply that I think the automatic setup had a blue tag!

ANy other comments in this matter is gladly appriciated.

As I remember those colors are correct for auto and manual. Carter was pretty cool.

i noticed to that the blue tag had an A at the end... does the red have a M??

color should not matter, the numbers are what needs to be correct.

Yeah, that's the way to go! But in a restoration process.....!

This is what I have found out in this matter;

All carbs had tags with part#. All red tags were for manual shifted cars and blue tags for automatic cars.

This also makes sence for the assembly workers to know which carb to use for the right setup. No mixup!

Date code on 1965 cars were right on the carb. My carb has L4 standing for November 1964.

B=February
C=March
D=April
E=May
F=June
G=July
H=August
J=September
K=October
L=November
M=December

I'm not sure when they started with the date code on a carb tag.

The original 4bbl AFB on my '65 has a tag that is aluminum color. Maybe one of the rebuilds we did on it over the years took the paint off in the solvent...

Agree with the above comment that it is the number stamp on the carb that matters.

Chewy, mine was silver too as far as I remembered, but mine was a C.A.P car (Cal. air package or was it clean air package? ) so my auto carb had the 3 stage rods and the dimpled rod covers. I believe this was an unmolested original car when I bought it in 91 after sitting stored indoors for 17 years. I would have remembered a red or blue tag.
