Lightweight master cylinder leaking at firewall

This is the second time in 7 years this has happened. I replaced the last master with a new one, and then this happened again. Very frustrating. Does the rubber seal go bad that soon?

What fluid? Might not be compatible with the seal if its eating the paint.

The rubber boot is dry, but misshapen.

I'm not help, but I feel your pain. We switched to D5 IMMEDIATELY after we peeled paint.

I will do the same, unfortunate I will need to buy a new master cylinder as to not cross contaminate.

It's up to you and there's been a "debate" on "flushing". We simply bled constantly until D5 was at each corner, topping up the mc as needed. That was 12 years ago. Good luck.

Dot 5 is supposed to be compatible with dot 3, but I understand your concern with peeling paint.

Upon closer inspection, the leak was coming from the base of the reservoirs.

You can probably get that seal if it's a mopar master. It's probably the same as a caravan.

I don’t think I’d trust that. Like I said, this was twice now

There is no pressure there. It is simply a seal between the reservoir and master. If your master is functioning and it's just leaking there, just replace the seal, if you can get it.

I had the top cap seal leak on that MC and it's not like I check the fluid every day. So what's with the seals, what are being made out of? Looking to buy the cap seal they were pricey. I went on Ebay and bought a pair of Dorman's for about $12 with free shipping. Sometimes just have to keep looking for the right deal.

Well I am definitely going a different direction. There will not be a third time. Repainting the firewall is not fun or cheap.
