This is my 97 Jeep 4.0, 163000 kms. It only does this after it runs for 15 minutes. Pic of rod bearing.

The picture of the bearing is blurry. The crank shows signs of blue which means it has been HOT! And by the click it sounds like a rod bearing knock.

Definitely a rod!! I had a Jeep Cherokee with the same issues. The 4.0's are notorious for this! I wouldn't own another!!

Mic the crank, and the rod with the bearing, you know in three places and that will tell the story.

please explain, I have always heard of a rod knock so what is it? clearances too big so its banging back and forth? Burnt piston? Is the crank screwed?
The full story is this...2 winters ago i parked my jeep with the tail in the air. Hours later i started it with the autostarter (forgetting how it was parked), it ran for about 10 mins when I walked out and shut it off with the remote. I waited a few minutes and it didnt want to start but finally did. Has worked good ever since but I only drive a few miles to work so it never gets too hot. I had a good drive a month ago and this is when I heard the noise for the first time. thanks guys
