Finally got her out for a good test drive and was able to get a real gas mileage count over the weekend.
Drove a 350 miles round trip to my Brother's house over by Kingman to help him fix an apparent failed fuel pump in his 2001 Toyota Tundra pickup.
Mild built 5.9 Magnum with 1 /58 tube headers, Edelbrock dual plane Performer intake and 600 Performer carb.
A500 overdrive (42RH trans with 2.73 rear gears)
My old combo (318 and 904) with all the same add on's got 17mpg at 80 miles per hour on the open freeway at 2,800 RPM's. (we took it to the CA coast 3-4 times in the last couple of years) so I know that was a pretty accurate account on the mileage.
The 350+hp 5.9 and 42RH got 25mpg at 90mph at 2,000 RPM's on Interstate 40.
About 8 miles to the gallon better mileage and 1,000 less RPM's that the 318 and 904.
Not one problem with the car anywhere and was running 220 degrees in a few places like going over the hill to Laughlin Nevada for dinner on the river and a few spins of the slot machines where it was 104 degrees.
It only takes about 1/2 inch of gas pedal to maintain that 90 mph, and once in converter lockup everything runs cooler from the lack of heat generated by the slip of the converter.
