forgot a problem I had the last time I had it out on the road

3 years ago it would lock & unlock the converter at speed for no reason

I took it to have the trans serviced and he suggested a rebuild. 97K miles and no other problem but I wanted to up the power so i said OK and put in a good converter

Still would unlock converter so I thought throttle sensor. Changed that and it was OK till last Dec. On the way home from FL after driving 72 mph all day the last 240 miles home after fueling set cruise at 72 mph and just shortly after getting on the interstate the converter unlocked on flat ground. At 68 MPH it was fine.

Well, forgot all about it, I drive about 60 mph to and from work and really haven't driven it much other than that.

Yesterday on interstate cruise set at 73 mph for about 3 hours and then it happened, mainly flat ground, just the truck, converter unlocked.

Anyone else have a problem like this? So any thoughts? did the throttle sensor go bad again, maybe a bad ground, It is down to 64 mph to stay locked in, what a long day/drive

Newer computer controlled trans.? If so I would take a look at the TCC solenoid. On my sisters car the Torque converter would sometime lock then unlock for no reason and every once in awhile throw a code. I just found what wires lead to it then checked the resistance and sure enough it was out of spec.

I had a 95 that did the same thing. Someone on eBay sells a fix for that symptom. The fix is a shielded wire kit from the TPS to the ECM on the fire wall. It did help but I didn't keep the truck much longer after I installed it. Needless to say I bought an 05 with a six speed.... No more converter issues lol.

clean the battery cables on the right battery good, clean the left also but the right is the one that gives the most problems, also have the batteries checked

log onto www.cumminsforum.com and do a converter lock up problem. it will pull up a 100 page thread on it. i had the same problem weith the one i had recently, but it was hit or miss. would do it for a week, then nothing for a month. the wire may get hot and do it, or condensation. someone above posted about a kit they sell to avoid this issue, but it does not always work..

in no way is the trans bad cause of this, nor will it hurt it, but is a notorious issue with them. good luck
