Low Rider Mopars

Great thread,Cliff. With the smog laws killing the factory musclecar, in the 70's,people went away from the hotrod stuff. The next thing was a return to customizing. Before factory muscle came along, sheetmetal work was the late model expression.Way we had Von Dutch,Jefferies,Roth,Himsl,Barris.

well the late 70s were a time of personal luxury ......and to me i agree with the above statement of each to his or her own ....but IMO your cordoba captures the true heritage of Chrysler of the times of the late 70s.
those low-riders and customs have no regard for the times and historical statement of these cars.

your doba as-is is a time machine to days long gone and will never come back .....and to me thats what ppl on avaerage like to see.....

at a car show i would rather take a pic with your original or period correct doba than a Ferrari or some pimp car

the point of restoring a car is rewind the hands of time and re-capture what was at one time .......but like everything else ...in a world where everything is destined to die and decay...true history can come at a big price and time is not always easy to rewind

Rani my car will never be original. If that was the case the lean burn system on it. And the original color is long gone. No it doesn't capture the old heritage of Chrysler,if it did it would not look like a Monte Carlo.

its still period correct bcoz a lot of ppl of the times even some dealer shops were sending the problematic lean burn systems to the poo-poo pile bcoz they just didnt work.

yes even looking like a monte carlo it still captures what was in the mind of chrysler of the late 70s ...they were trying to compete and the doba still stands out above the competition bcoz of engineering to improve the mouse trap .......what did GM do that was like the lean burn system ....sure it didnt work but it was a valiant effort to keep up and offer the public a better product with the technology that was available at that time

BTW i have a lean burn set-up if you want it to keep with the car for nostalgia......they will never make another lean burn system like that again ...good bad or indifferent.

No thanks Rani No lean burn system unless I move to California

just sayin ...they both look horrible.....you cant have a muscle car sitting on the ground .....stance is everything for a true muscle car ....they didnt make A12 superbees or S/S cudas sit on the ground like a pimp car for a reason ....good reason

No Mopar will ever be a lowrder - ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

every school should teach an automotive history class in addition to the standard history ......ppl would be understand business and life lessons better if they did.

The Lee Iaccoca story is a very intersting one

its amazing how he worked magic for ferd too ....with the Granada

which arguably was actually a good car for the time ....it did what its was built to do ...who can ask for more

I disagree and I am reading about a Cordoba build now and guess what it's a Low Rider

well the good thing about you uncle Cliff ....is your going to look cute in anything you build ....so good luck with whatever you decide. i hope you take note of the input in here, but ultimately do what makes you happy, that is also a main point of this hobby :D

The only reason the govt. Bailed out Chrysler back then was because they had the tank division, which I believe they sold as a requirement after they were bailed out. If not for that mopar would have gone the way of AMC.

That is true and it's the only way it saved them. But it didn't work this last time around

its really sad too.....the U.S. maybe didnt invent but definately the country that perfected the automobile and pretty wrote the book on the industry that the rest of the world followed, should have a strong auto industry.

Not exactly. The body fit and quality of American cars sucked back then. The foreign cars where just better built. Detroit just figured they could just continue business as usual and lost the market.

well the pro-stock cars push a ton of horsepower and so does a Ferrari ....but they still dont capture the true heritage, Nostalgia and essence of Mopar racing and super stock programs in its original form of the 60s and original style that these cars were born with

How did Ferrari get dragged into this mess? I am sorry but comparing any of these cars to a Ferrari is like comparing apples to oranges.

I can't wait to see people flip out over those pics.:happy1:. I will always perfer the tubbed out dragster look. If it is the right car though it can look great slammed...or all homied out.
