Finally caught a nice day, although insomnia last night, and I took a nap this morning. Went to "the dike" on the river and got caught off guard with my hands full of fries, tea, and a Carls chicken sandwich. Only thing "I had on the camera" at first was the 300mm 2.8 and the 2x extender, hence trying to "snapshot" handheld at 600mm. The ducks head.

Finally got rid of the 2x extender, the duck in the water and goslings(?) are at 300mm, only lens I had down there.

Last, caught this kitty sneaking across the street the other day, also with the 300mm + 2x. The crop of his eyes is full size. Nothing was done to any of these except cropping and scaling to size.

Canon EF 300mm 2.8 L, 2X EF Extender II, body is 7D

Keep that camera with you. With pictures like these, we will all want to more. Great shots!

The irony is that now that I've got some of the best gear I've ever owned, some of the best in the world, I can no longer hike. Any of my "big guns" get heavier every year because of my arthritis, 70-200 2.8L, the 300 2.8L, or my 100-400L are all big heavy lenses. I use a monopod or tripod whenever I can do so.

In fact, I just bought a huge fluid head/ tripod combo the other day (Craigslist) for 50 bucks less than the fluid head alone costs new.

501HDV head, the thing is monsterous. Hoping to make use of it this summer when the hydros come to town. Not mine, just a photo stolen from Al Gore's internet

You ever thought about taking pictures at the race track? If you took pictures of the cars that are good as the wildlife you could fund your photo hobby.

Thanks, not as good as I once was. This is probably my best shot, ever

I see Flickr changed their entire format, don' like it much

So I go into one of the thrift stores back this winter, rainy, nasty

"Well" says Mr irritatingly happyhappyhappy, "How are WE doing today?"

So I grump back, "well I was gonna go shoot some Eagles, but the weather isn't good."

"Shoot Eagles??? Isn't that ILL EAGLE?"

"Oh, I donoo," I said, "I WAS gonna use my CANON."

"!!!???CANNON???!!!"

"Yeah, I don't use Nikon!!!"

X2, we have a man and his wife that takes pictures at races and has a printer
set up in a small trailer, he takes pictures and lets them run on a screen and when a driver/fan see's one he/she likes he prints them out for $$ and has fun doing it  You sure have this picture taking thing down :glasses7:

I don't think I'm in good enough health to pull that off. Going to "big events" like carshows, I can't be on my feet for very long. Anything that involves much hiking, I have to resort to an electric wheelchair. I used to ride my pedal + electric trike, but haven't even got that out yet this year. I can ride it less every year
