Thought I would share in case anyone is interested or thought of trying it.

I am gonna to try and create the Commando VC’s with my original Magnum VC.

Got my HeatSinks in today and set them on top and I think by the time I have them milled to fit around the grommet holes and oil cap, I believe they will look pretty decent!

Going to add wire looms, not sure if I’m going to mill out a holder in the Heatsink or if I will take a set and mount them when I glue the Heatsinks on.

I’m gonna cut the guts out of this ‘59 Oil Cap I bought off of evil bay for $6 and retrofit it to Magnum Oil Cap.

Got to put another coat on the VC’s the wrinkle finish more pronounced and then it’s off to the races!!!

I’ll add photos as the work progresses!

Awesome idea- I've been looking at various extrusions with the same idea in my head- I never thought of using
heat sinks!

Here is where bought them from. I had looked on eBay forever and could never find the right combo I was after. They are little heavy around a 1lb per sink, but I’m figuring after they’ve been milled and cut they’ll be fine.

2.008'' (51mm) Wide Heatsink

What a great idea. Can’t wait to see these done. Thinking machine for sure.

This was my stab at commando look alike valve covers, using aftermarket fabricated covers.

I can measure originals if you want for wire holders and anything else. Great idea.

That would be awesome!!!

I was measuring out the height of the fins today and think I may not be able to have them cut into the fins like the original and just add a holder on the side...as fins are just a little under 1”.

Intriguing!

I've restored a ton of those Commando fins over the years. The front and back fins are a bit closer together than the other three but it's not readily obvious looking at them. If you trim them right and add the curves around the grommet especially, it would probably be a very marketable venture. I have a couple loose ones in my stash too if you need more measurements.

Thank you Leanna!

I’ve had a hard time trying to find something that would be close to the originals.

I even looked at the original pieces but they are a little to wide for the magnum covers and in 2 pieces due the oil filler and PVC.

If this works out it maybe an alternative even for original style VC’s, maybe, then maybe not, but it’s worth a shot regardless in my opinion.

Thanks again to you and all who have commented and for the words of encouragement!!

Little progress this weekend...not much but better than nothing! Prepping the ‘59 Oil Cap before attaching the OEM Magnum Oil Cap, attempting different things to attach the 2 together and I think my best route is to use an aluminum spacer cut down to length and Epoxy the 2 together. I used different sizes to get the height close to allow for the contact of the Epoxy allow the Magnum cap to sit down inside the ‘59 Cap.

Open to other suggestions if you all think of something different to attach the 2 together!
