What's the best way to make 2" or 3", very clean holes, in sheet metal:study:. I have a 20 ton shop press and was thinking of buying a knockout punch set. Will this give me a very clean hole? If not, what could I use? Can you recommend a punch set? I've been using a good quality 2" drill bit, and it works fine, but want a faster method. Thanks for your help.

I don't think you would get anything cleaner than a punch.Cheap way is a hole saw,in a drill press of course.

I use a hole saw with cutting oil - and a hand drill - as the holes I needed were too far into a hood to get on any press
these were 5" holes

Greenlee makes about the best punches I've seen. Nice, clean holes.

Be prepared for sticker shock though......

Yep electrical knock out punches are the best. Like stated above Greenlee's are very good also very expensive. But you wont get a cleaner hole.

Haunt your local pawn shops for the Greenlee k/o's, sometimes you can find one or two of the correct size for the manual type k/o's.
