Still looking but here’s another one.

How the heck did I get a disagree on this post. Lol

I'm curious about cost. I have a bbc roller with a couple serious divits from the previous owned who spun it too fast, with too little spring.
Guaranteed repair for half the cost of a new cam? I'm in!

My local cam grinding mob has been doing this for years. I was always hesitant to try one that had the lobes built up with weld - i always stuck with what could be ground from what's already there but plenty of people seem to be running them without issues.

Hard face rod? I didn't attempt to watch the video. Just find a guy that welds up earth mover buckets or something similar, lol.

Done right there's no reason it shouldn't work and be reliable. Cranks get built up by welding and ground all the time. Probably more often in commercial/industrial applications where time is money. Amazing what some guys (not me) can do with a welder.

When my junk **** Crane lifters were failing at a rate of 2 lobes per pass, I was having Ken at Oregon Cams weld and regrind the lobes.

Never had a failure with a welded lobe. Plus, he was doing dozens of blown alcohol cam repairs. Those guys are murder on valve train.

What did he charge, compared to a new roller?
Is he local to you.

IIRC, it was 125 bucks for the first lobe because he had to weld it up and then copy the lobe. Unless he already had a master for the lobe. I was using lobes he didn’t have a master for.

After that, it was 75 a lobe to weld and grind. BUT…that was almost 20 years ago now. So I’m not sure what it costs today.

$50 a lobe for welding and $150 for grinding to profile, was what I saw in the video where he was doing a cummins cam.
