Well I findly got my slant six intake manifold sandblasted today and need some advice. This manifold had a pair of webers on it. Should I put them back on or find some Su carbs for it.
In about a week I'm getting my new carb pads/spacers for my intake just like yours. The spacing for the webers wasn't quite what my 2bbl holleys is, so I'm having new carb pads made. If they turn out good, might you be interested in contact info to get a set of them for yourself?
If the setup was working before, I'd stick with the Webers, especially if they are DGEVs. The DGEV is a progressive 2 bbl, whereas the DGAS is a synchronous 2 bbl. Setting up and synchronzing a pair of SUs is a PITA. They seem to require more attention IMO.
How do you tell the difference between the DGEVs or the DGAS as I took this set up off a Dodge A100 van. Somebody took the choke butterflys out of the carbs and had some mikey mouse linkage on them. I will post some pictures of the webers tomorrow. If they are what you said then I will make them run.
With the carbs off the engine, crank the throttle shaft on the carb by hand, and the primaries will open. If the secondaries stay closed, you have the DGEV, if the secondaries open w/ the primaries then you have the DGAS. The DGEV(progressive) acts like half a 4bbl carb w/ vacuum secondaries, so unless it's under vacuum, the secondaries won't open.
Well I have the carbs clean up and I will used the webers. I just have to make up some nice linkage because I did'nt like the setup that somebody else had on the manifold. here is apicture of them. They are not mounted yet.
