On 10/23 I took my 2000 Cummins pickup to a local repair its developed some odd quirks I wanted him to help figure out , of course it seems it won't repeat the problem.
now.

anyway I stopped back 1st week or so of November and we talked about it he said " I have all my test equipment hooked up and taking it on short runs trying to get check engine to come on again "

well I've been crazy busy , drove by one day on way home, he had the box full of building materials ? Made me , mad I didn't stop cause he is a "friend" somewhat and I didn't want to gripe about it ..its a 58,000 super clean truck I use to only pull the race trailer , not a ******* work truck.

so, waited for him to contact me and say come get it , apparently he had a few more dump runs , I texted him Friday, no repsonse , texted him again weds no response so , today I was finally able to leave my personal prison and get out of work a bit early .. and decide I'm going to find out.

He is like , hey where yah been ? I said busy .. truck done ? yah, it won't act up .. boy eveyone wants to buy that truck , its so nice

I asked, are yah done hauling **** in it ? I don't use it like that .. he was pretty quiet , offered to have his shop kid drive it home for me if I give him a ride back, had to put fuel in it when I dropped it off it was fuel, took 24 gallons ,,

not taking **** there again

Reminds me of the time my 90 T Bird Supercoupe needed an A/C pump and "sat" at the dealership for weeks. My Son keep saying "hey Dad, I saw your car while riding the bus to school this morning" and I keep telling him "no that's Tom's automatic from K&B tools not mine". Then I passed it myself one day heading out of town for a meeting and did the Linda Blair head turn. 495 extra KM on it when I dropped by the dealership that night. I took all the cash the owner had in his wallet as compensation when his service counter wouldn't own up to the fact that they were using it to run to Barrie (50K each way) to get parts in the mornings.

had it two and half months , not sure all mechanic shops do it but, around here that pretty common for them to drive your stuff around " test drive" .. long distance drive

to be fair, some newer stuff does require extended test drive to reset monitors. for instance i had a early teens ford box truck that i needed to put nearly 80mi on to get everything cleared for the smog test.

or if you have an instance where somebody says: hey, after 45min of driving it starts to do [blank] then, yeah you're gonna put some miles on it, but you set up the expectation of that at the get go.

popping out for lunch? sure. maybe to the hardware store for fittings or something? yeah. but building materials or a dump run? nah man.

If he'd said he was trying to replicate it under load, that's one thing.

If my truck was that clean and the guy scratched my bed up, it's gonna cost him a lot more than a rental would have

About 20 years ago I was on a test drive after doing an alignment to to make sure the steering wheel was straight. I had a hankering for Miki Ds fries so I went thru the drive thru. A while later the customer come back for his car. Asked if I was happy with the way it steered. I said ya it’s awesome. He said how was your snack. BUSTED. He thought it was pretty funny as he was having coffee there to and had seen me. Kim
