I’ve had a few members sending me messages asking about the 340 that was in my car. Most don’t believe it’s not a roller cam or roller rockers. It’s not a 4” stroker either, old 355” kit from Direct Connection years ago. Here is a few pictures to show the SFT and ductile rockers. It’s all about the combo and if the engine is happy.

Rundown of what’s in the 340

1971 340 block, it’s half filled.
3.46” stroke forged crank
BME aluminum rods
JE forged pistons
11.6:1 compression
W2 heads ported by RAMM. Flow 286 @ 650 lift. 2.05/1.60 Manley valves
Indy single plane intake
Hughes off the shelf SFT cam. See picture for cam specs
Ductile iron rockers
Smith Brothers pushrods
Kevko rear sump oil pan
I built the headers

Rest of the car rundown,
904 with 6300 TCS converter
9” with 4.86 gear
Ladder bar
2700 lbs race weight

9.70 @ 137.26 with 1.29 60’

Nice! Simple but effective!

7400-7500
What were your shift points? Used to turn a 440 7300 at the stripe and shifted at 69. It was in a 68 road runner and ran 10.68 @125. Not too shabby for 1982-3. It also had ductile non roller rockers but did have a roller cam.....all Isky components.

Shift lite comes on at 6800-6900. That doesn’t mean i hit the shift perfectly lol

By the time it shifts will be 7000 I would think

Are all eight cylinders sleeved or is that an illusion? What's the bore size?

All bout the combo :) I would love to switch to a SFT just to save a pile of money but am too afraid of wiping a cam now..

Thats a lot of *** kickin' goodness.
Having a light weight car doesn't hurt things either. My lightest race car was 2900 but I got a 66 Belvedere 2dr sedan down to 2950 and it still had the factory AC on it. Started at 3370 with a /6 in it....

Methanol?
yes, M5 from VP
Too many rpm. It will break parts and be unreliable. You needed to cut it back to 6k.

That’s the PERFECT bracket rpm.

That’s what I’ve been told by the best shoe polish tuners in the country.

Just passing it on for posterity.
SFT cams can't rpm up there...your going to wipe that cam out....you need roller rockers too!!

i run a single toilet that's 1435 cfm on a small cubic inch engine
Everyone told me I had too much on mine but it kept going faster and faster. Had two 750 tr carbs on a tall Weiand. Only down side was they were inline but the linkage was simple.

I was told the same thing when I had a 2-750’s TR on a 410” SB.

My 414” has 2 toilets, 2870 cfm
