Mini starter for a 74 duster slant 6 225

I'm looking to put a mini starter on my sons daily, 74 duster 225. I have looked at my 97 1500, magnum, and looks like it would work? Thanks guys

Rock Auto will sell you a starter rebuilt by Denso. Part # is 2800144. Little more than an off brand new starter but I'll take a Denso and pay up once.

Can't remember for sure but think I had to swap a terminal out to fit cables the right way.

yea the new offbrand ones are cheap junk.. had one and it was giving me trouble getting the bolts in.. bought the napa (rebuilt original) one since it was local, got a discount and had a great warranty. dropped right in. bolts went in easily.
 
Someone told me (a while back) to pick up a mini starter for a 1991 Ram d150 318, and it worked perfect on my 225 Slant
 
I have a mini on 2 of mine only because they were what I had laying around but yeah I would rather have that classic Mopar starter sound
 
You can also use the starter from a 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 5.7L w/ MANUAL trans. All you have to do is drill out the threads on the top mounting hole. I needed clearance for the steering box and future exhaust plans on my slant powered track roadster I built. I got it from Napa and haven't had any issues after lots of street driving And racing on the dirt track and drag strip. I will see if I can find a photo
 
A mini starter will fit any engine that uses the 62-87 Chrysler gear reduction starter. They do not interchange with the older direct-drive starter found on certain manual trans applications. I feel like these starters work fine but are not an actual upgrade from the last of the OG Chrysler-built starters. The large-frame 1.8hp Chrysler-built starter likely spins the engine as fast as the mini-starter.

Where you will see a dramatic improvement is over the early '62-mid '69 2095150 Chrysler-built unit, which is built with a shunt coil in it to limit the rpm of the electric motor. Also, Chrysler evidently agreed with most of the backyard mechanics in that a faster turning starter motor helped mask a poorly tuned, reluctant to start engine. Just about all of Chrysler's mid-70's and later engines were poorly tuned and reluctant to start, so after mid-'73 they replaced the shunt coil with a regular coil to speed the starter up, plus introducing the aforementioned 1.8hp starter. That brings up a question
I have a 74 225 in an 85 D150
Currently has the truck's original 727 in it (Yes I know the difference between 904/727)
I also have the adapter plate they used in the 60s to put a small block 727 into/6 powered vehicles back in the 60s. I'm considering putting an a500 in this thing, which moves the starter down to the small block position. They did use the standard Mopar starter with the adapter. So I'm good with whichever starter I want to run, right?
 
It'll work but a mini starter won't have the right sound. Don't use it.
So the sound of dieing dolphins is ok?
And God forbid your battery gets low. It will sound like you are killing a whole family of um.
