All for right now!

Wow! Over 500 views! Must be doing something right.

Here's small update from this morning. I worked on the valve covers, tried to finish them before I had to go to work. Close!
After drying all night

Over all I think they look great. I was sold on it yesterday, I'm not a huge fan of black and polished valve covers but these look pretty darn sweet!

Nice work! Those will look nice when installed. Ever think about painting the top and front of the engine? I did this to a 318 in my old 318 Dart, swapped an intake on, cleaned up the front of the engine best I could, covered and taped a bunch of stuff off, and sprayed it blue, it turned out pretty good and still looks good many years later!

So then dad tells me to get in. Awesome right? It was pretty sweet. My dads throwing gravel and making the tires. It was pretty fun! Then the throttle sticks open .... My dad gooeses it and it does slow down so you throws it in nutral and turns it off. Get out and one of the throttle return springs has come off so we get on and start heading home. We're almost home my dad turns to me says Does the fuel gauge work? Tell him I thought so but I didn't know for sure. Right as we get in front of the house it dies lol so we coast into the drive way. I grab the truck and get a few gallons of gas.

Now starts the crappy part.

So I put new gas in and start her. She takes a bit but I get her going then I roll up the drive way and dies. Go to start again and it won't run. She cranks and shakes and sputters. So my dad comes out and try's it. It back fires! Scared to crap out off me....so we think it's timing so we retard it a tiny bit and it backfires through the carb in a big white cloud! What the heck?! So we advance it a bit and it back fires through the rear again. So my dad gives it one last try and.......BOOM! Black smoke comes out from underneath and she's roaring. I about pooped myself.......literally. I look underneath to find this

So it won't run right, my dad and I push it to the garage....driveways up hill a little bit. We check plugs and wires. Found one bad spot in one wire but that's it. We're kinda stumped. Maybe one of you my experienced guys know something. I'm just getting frustrated and irritated.

Thanks

So today I didn't get much done but I was pretty worn out after work. So I bough stuff I will need coming up. I was trying to get everything done by tomorrow because there is a decent size car show up the road from me but that ain't going to happen now lol so no rush I guess. Oh and I'm pretty sure it jumped timing on me....

Update time!!

First off sorry if my typing is bad. Most of the time I upload things off of my phone.

Ok now for pictures!

The last bracket and double return spring for the carb

Half of the new wires on

All of the new wires on

Then one of my work bench at work....hope no one minds

Then I still could get the dart to run right and it would backfire out of the carb. So I said forget it and let it sit till I got my new dizzy and coil.

New Coil. MSD Blaster coil

The new HEI dizzy from RPC. Pretty sweet

One of the things your supposed to do is bypass the ballast resonator. Well I take it off and boom....might have been the problem all along. Three different breaks, if you can see them

Everything hooked up!

And a video of her running. Sounds kinda like a drag car :D:burnout:

Sorry for me giggling like a school girl. It made me very happy to see her alive again!

Well shortly after that the engine died and it will run for a bit then die again. Like its not getting any fuel. Manual you can pump it in. I think I popped the diaphragm in the carb. Not sure. Will check it out tomorrow!

Hello all again!

Not another update on the car but just life in general.

So the college I was going to was giving me the run around and I was in the process of dropping out and going to a more local college to my home town. Well my adivisor called me yesterday and he got everything straightened out at my old college so I can go back for this last semester and finish up my degree. Problem with that is I will be 3 hours away four days a week and drive home to work for the rest of the week. So not much work will get on the dart but I can start stock piling stuff to get done and save more money hopefully. The nice thing is I have 2 weeks to get the dart running, I hope! haha I want to be able to drive it back and forth to work on the weekends.

Have a good one guys!

If the pick up filter in the gas tank has never been changed it is likely clogged. This filter is often over looked.

I never did check it but I changed the filter by the fuel pump and the power valve now she runs pretty good!

Sorry about the pictures they should be back tomorrow...

Hello! I'm Back!

I had a great vacation and birthday!

I got some sweet vintage signs from my birthday also a bunch of books. One books is about the history of cars and the others are paint and body work books. I decided Im going to do everything I can on the dart!

I went to South Dakota for vacation with my family. Was beautiful out there so I thought I would show some pictures!
First stop was the Badlands

Then we went to Mt. Rushmore

Then Little Big Horn and Devils Tower

And my favorite Wild Bill's grave

Then I came home to relax....but I wash my jeep and took it for a cruise

Also found this old guy! an old FJ

Also found this SWEET! 65 New Yorker with a 413! Be a sweet cruiser!

Someone posted this sweet 70/71 Dart....just really liked it

Howdy all!

Been awhile since I posted! So I figured I would check in.

So got back moved back to school and started classes. Still working and going to class takes up most of my spare time so the dart hasn't been touched much. I did get it tuned better but still needs work. Needs exhaust and a new radiator right now. I did however pick up some super nice swinger emblems on here for a good price!

Since my dart only came with one and it was pretty rough I figured I could use them. Then I got a wild idea I could take my old one and custom it up so here it is!
F6DB5AE9-1514-438F-A19D-78F8999DAE68-6001-0000666AFF5A2947_zpsd0c4308d.jpg

So thoughts? I really like it but not sure yet.

Then I got some new tires on my jeep
40B14745-E4E4-4D8D-9B82-F03A33BBFAA4-2058-0000634A411B88B4_zps7182d01e.jpg

So I think I decided to paint the car back to the blue it is or close to it with a flat black hood and body colored scoops. Still trying to decide if I want to go with a vinyl top or maybe paint to roof black.

Thanks and have a good one!
Hootie

very nice job on your dart..
what part of Indiana do you live in?

Hootie, Welcome, great thread so far and Miss Maylene coming along nicely. I think the Black Cherry or Maroon is a great color for the ole girl.. But whatever you decide be sure its what you want. What does your Dad think the color should be?? Sorry to hear about your Grand father and Im sure he would be very proud of you and the build...Headmann header are a good header for the price and summitt makes an exhaust from the headers back with mufflers and it fits real good and is pretty cheap...and sounds good...Bill

Thanks Bill, my grandpa would have wanted it done faster so he could drive hahaha. My pops likes sassy grass green or black, both are great colors but I think Maylene is a bit classier. I like the summits, Ill probably end up going with it once I get some money. I checked out the headman and they are pretty good price!

Lookin good! Man, everytime I check your thread, I miss my 72. I think it is in Indiana, somewhere. Nice Jeep, too! I had painted my "flower" in my swinger emblem with candy apple red "testors" model paint. Just had to be different! Keep up the good work! More important, keep it fun!

Well cool most people don't, I work as a gunsmith at Target Sports well I do when Im not at school haha. Wow Augie will look beautiful! How do you like the 416? Seems like it would be a very fun motor.

Thanks MD, I think your old dart is for sale. I sale one dart that that looked close to the picture I have. I love my jeep, she aint fast but I daily her....doesn't get good mpg either! But still all the same its fun. Nice! I don't think red will go with my blue, I used hobby paint also but I couldn't decide if I wanted light blue/dark blue/hemi orange/sassy grass. I went with the light blue cause it looks kinda like chrysler blue. I think Im going to clean up the new ones good and put the light blue in them and leave it shiny. Then get the DART emblem too! I like to be different not sure why but I gotta be hahaha. I'll try to keep up the work when I can and fun :D

Hello humans!

Well just to show you all I aint too far gone or forgot about you all I figured I would post up another update!

Not to much going on with that dart, I wish I could say there was but with college and being a poor student does not leave a lot for side projects.
But I'll be done by Christmas so the rest of the winter and spring will but given to the dart so we can get her out but summer!
So right now I have been looking at radiators. The one I have in the car is the factory one and it is pretty trashed. Literally leak out of the casing so, I need a new one! Im trying to decide if I want an aluminum or brass/copper. My father told me to go with a stock one because of electrolysis? But Im not sure if it would matter cause I am running a aluminum intake so what your guys thoughts on that? I figure at the same time I will replace the water pump, belts and hoses. Might as well start new right? hahaha
I think I might as well throw a cam in since I will have the front of the engine disassembled. Something like a stock 340 cam just to wake up the little guy. Make summer cruising a bit more fun :burnout:
Also decided to grab a set of header to go with the glass packs.....if I ever get them on lol I might just end up taking them to a shop to get all new piping and just run an axle dump. Might be a bit loud but I want to have fun with it.

Might get new wheels and tires...that just depends still up in the air!

Also looking for a new rearend, I might end up having a big body rear cut down to make it work. I would rather find a 8.25 so I can swap the cherokee disk brakes in and just rebuild the guts.

All in do time I guess.

Have a good one!:D

Well hello people!

Not much of a update but I've been thinking!

So I have decided to go with a 8.25 right now, I have found a few around for a good price. I am going to swap over some cherokee disk brakes and boom! Awesome stuff.
Also going to rebuild the cooling system, radiator/hoses/pump/fan. Im pretty sure I will stay with the mechanical stock style. No cam for now, probably.... Im still not a 100% :-?

So Ive been looking at paint also...narrowed it down to 11..:tongue9:........ That sounds like a lot but its a lot less! Lets check them out :happy1:

1: Bahama Blue

2: Black Cherry

3: Bomber Blue

4: Candy Apple Red

5: Cappuccino Metallic

6: Challenger Orange

7: Charcoal Grey

8: Moss Green

9: Light Blue Metallic

10: Plum Insane (plum crazy)

11: Green Teal
