Hello fellow A body lovers, I got a purple shaft cam and lifters for a small block, It's used with no card on specs. My question is can you tell what cam it is by a casting number on the cam that says #30 Please help...

Cant tell from that.
You can get an idea of what it is by measuring the lift. If you have, or can get a digital caliper, measure the height of the lobe, and compare it to the side measurement. Then multiply by the rocker ratio.
Example : side measure 1.3 inches, lobe measure 1.6. Difference of .300 times rr 1.5 = .450 lift.
So, find a purple shaft with .450 lift. (Just an example).

There should be a number stamped on the very end flat side of the cam, the back end.
If not, might be a comp cam.

The 30 means nothing. You might also find cwc cast into it. That is just the mark from the company that cast the blank. I just checked my own purple cam that isnt in the engine. It has a six digit number stamped into the back of the rear journal. Good thing i know exactly what that cam is, cause the number i found doesnt seem to mean anything either.
Edit: oh, and my original maxwedge cam hasnt got a mark or a number on it....anywhere.

i would do what 331mp says and measure it. the only person that may know by the number is jim at racer brown. find him on internet and call when time says. he has forgot more that most people know about cams.

that will get you the "lobe lift" and that may be enough to tell if you need HP valve springs etc. its ok to do things "seat of the pants" once in a while, do you know how many test pilots died when man invented the airplane? Brave souls who took a chance and lost...but, there were guys who won like Chuck Yeager... the risk is always worth the reward.

I see you are very new here. Just in case you are wondering, pittsburg racer is kidding.

Heck ya I am. I have two in my basement that I have to do the same thing too. Some markings but nothing to tell me what it is. At one time I think they marked them with a dab or red, orange, etc, paint to identify them. They were and are some great cams. Good luck.

Dang, you're right! I looked at mine a couple hours ago, theres a paint dab on the back!
Dont help a whole damn lot, if you dont know what the paint dab means!
