Ok got the cooling system updated with new radiator, thermostat, an hoses. Old system used fuel line to connect tranny lines to rad, so I used some fuel line and new clamps, got back from a test run thru the neighborhood and she was leaking fluid at the radiator area. Got check that out today, the fun never ends!

Assuming that it’s a factory transmission, you’d be miles ahead if you could find a set of factory metal lines from a donor vehicle.

Its a 727, steel lines are there, the new radiator has flared pipes coming out of rad, so I have to do what previous owner did and use some fuel line. Trying to think of a stronger hose thats readily available...

Ok, lesson learned, barbs for tranny lines coming out of new rad were not right, and I did not check. My fault, that wont happen again! Ok, no leaks from tranny and old leaks from valve covers seem to have been fixed with new gaskets. Are the cast aluminum covers any better than these flexy Edelbrock ones?

Good Job! I like the stock steel covers really well myself, but my experience with any of them dictates good quality reusable rubber and steel combination gaskets are the only sure way to keep leaks in check.

James; don't use fuel line hose for ATF, especially ATF+4. It has new chemicals in it. I bought some ATF hose from NAPA some years ago, it's sold by the foot. Has a higher pressure rating.

Thanks for the heads up, pick up some on the way home today.
Next quest, no degree tab on front of motor....

Hey JT,
Not only is your block and 318 and not a 273, but it is a 67/68 thick bore block.
Possible 340 size bore potential, or just a 4" bore for more piston choices when/if upgrading.
Seems like you are a town or two away.
Pm me if you ever need a hand
