Originally a 69 barracuda with slant six but I am restomodding with new k frame from 340 car and it came with the 1.0 torsion bars (formula S). I am away from the car at the moment so I thought I might ask the following question.... will these larger torsion bars fit into the torsion mounts on the body of the car or must I put in bigger mounts there as well?

I have never heard of different size sockets for the bars... just different lengths and diameter bars..

while the diameter of the bars changed the size of the mounts/hex sockets did not. all a body cars are the same length.

btw, 340 formula s bars would be .870 diameter

Yes, they'll fit if the K frame is from a 340 A body.

Back in 67 there were 4 A body torsion bars.

Confirmed correct numbers

/6. 888/889
Standard V8. 890/891
Heavy duty 892/893
Big block. 894/895

There may have been others in 68 up

Agree. And FYI for anyone, the sizes of A body factory bars - all years - are typically:

Slant 6 .83
Standard V8 .85
340 plus HD 273 .87
383 .89

As noted above, a 1.00 bar is not OEM.

Just a note about the HD bars. That was an option and could be on any car with any engine combination, In 67 it was the "rallye package" IIRC

i agree that if they are truely 1" bars that they are not factory. probably just suspension bars. i'd go 1.08 bars from @BergmanAutoCraft and be done with it.. you'll love them. just be sure to run a good shock with them.

and yes they will fit the sockets.
