Mpg on a mild 360?

-
My 71 got between 18-21 if I drove it gently. It was a very mild 360 with a TQ, 904 and 3.23s with 275 60s on the rear. It would run 13.90s like it sat, or I could swap in the 4.10s and slicks and it would go 13.60s. Had the Crane magic cam in it.

Is there a thread where you describe the reasons you like this cam? Is it one of the old Econopower series? I had one in a 355 Chevy that did well. The only thing I saw with this one is the rpm range starts at 2200.

With 340 , 3:23 stock converter ,stock Carter AVS and 25" tires I got 18-20 mpg on the highway @ 65 -70 mph . Now with a Holley 770 avenger 3:55's , 26" tires , stock converter and GV overdrive I get around 23 - 24 mpg . 200 mile trip cost 62.00 in gas that would be about 8 gallons , it was 1.65/litre . Of course that was at a steady cruise of 65 - 70 mph . I think with the Carter I'd get at least 1 to 2 mpg more .

I say mileage will very greatly depending on driving habits and how well your car is tuned.

Back in the day my uncle had a built 340 duster and on long trips he would swap in highway gears and would even tow a boat with it and I remember saying he would get pretty good mileage.
