I posted last night - felt like an idiot 'cause it's been about three years since disassembly. This ain't like early A's - it doesnt have the screw holes - soooo ... am I missing a part here ? Maybe a flange of some sort ? #8screws obviously won't grab - anybody with a 73-74 - could you take a look and/or maybe a photo so I can install this thing (that is, if I can get the friggin' tube in without dropping the tank !) Any advise accepted, criticism ignored.

welp, what you are missing is that the tube flange goes on the outside of the quarter panel not the inside.

The filler tube is really just held into the tank by the 4 screws at the quarter panel. I installed in this order.
1. slide the fiber gasket onto the tube ( it goes on first because it sits between the filler tube and the body. )
2. slide the tube through the quarter panel about half way and use some wd-40 to put the trunk floor boot on the tube.
3. slide the tube down through the trunk floor and into the tank grommet with wd-40.
4. tighten the 4 screws at the quarter panel and put the screws into the floor boot.

Damn, damn, damn. This is how I had it installed last night 'cause I new that's the only way it'd hold. So they changed it in 73. What threw me was a gas cap I had that must be for 67-72 cars - when i put it on after installing last night, it stuck out off of the body about a half inch - that's when I new something was up. I'm guessing I need a cap for a 73 in order for it to sit flush. Thanks a bunch - what a PITA this has been !

Gas caps are different for the 73 up cars wherein the tube flange mounts to the OUTSIDE of the body - why don't I see gas caps specified for these cars - mfgs/vendors have their applications wrong ! 73 up cars have a "shallower" cap. Who's got it right ?
